Street work begins on El Paso Streetcar Project

The Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority (CRRMA) announced today that some construction activities for the El Paso Streetcar Project (the Project) will begin on Monday, December 7, 2015 and run through Friday, December 18, 2015.

This work will include:  (i) potholing on Stanton and Father Rahm Streets;  (ii) a temporary sidewalk realignment at Sun Metro’s Bert Williams Downtown Transfer Center;  (iii) the relocation of a bus stop; and (iv) utility relocation work by Texas Gas Service.

Paso Del Norte Trackworks (PDNT), the CRRMA’s Project contractor, will begin preliminary work (potholing) on the Project from Monday, December 7, 2015 through Friday, December 18, 2015; however, there will be no construction activities from PDNT between December 19, 2015and January 3, 2015 for the holiday break. PDNT’s work on the Project will resume on Monday, January 4, 2015.

Potholing is a process used to locate underground utilities. The process involves setting up daily traffic control, saw cutting and removing a 2’x2’ square of the existing roadway, excavating and locating the utility with a vacuum type truck, mapping all found utilities with GPS equipment, backfilling the hole, sweeping the work area clean of debris, and patching the removed asphalt.

It is estimated that PDNT will complete all potholing work by January 22, 2015.
