Former UTEP runner Okagbare Set to Compete at IAAF World Championships

Former UTEP sprinter and jumper, Blessing Okagbare, will represent the country of Nigeria at the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing from Aug. 22-30.

Okagbare will be competing in the 100m dash, 200m dash and she is listed as a possible candidate for the 4x100m relay team. Okagbare is Nigeria’s most prominent track and field athlete and she will look to earn medals for her country.

Okagbare will attempt to improve upon her sixth-place finish at the 2013 IAAF World Championships in the 100m dash. She will run her first heat in the 100m dash on Saturday (Aug. 22) at 10:00 p.m. (MT).

The Nigerian will need to finish in the top three of her heat or have one of the next six fastest times to advance to the semifinals.

Earlier this summer, she clocked a season best time of 10.80 seconds in Paris. The 100m dash semifinals (5:35 a.m. MT) and finals (7:35 a.m.) will be held Monday (Aug. 24) morning.
