Reno Rallies to Beat El Paso 8-5

The Reno Aces had three hits to break a ninth-inning tie and defeat the El Paso Chihuahuas 8-5 on Sunday afternoon. The Chihuahuas have now dropped six of their last seven games.

The Aces scored Sunday’s first two runs in the second inning on an error by El Paso’s Jemile Weeks and an RBI single by Aces’ catcher Tuffy Gosewisch. Reno added three more runs in the top of the third on an RBI double by Kyle Jensen and a two-run double by Jason Bourgeois to go ahead 5-0.

The Chihuahuas began their comeback attempt in the bottom of the third by bringing in a run on Manuel Margot’s RBI single and another when Jemile Weeks bounced into a double play with the bases loaded.

El Paso continued its unanswered scoring stretch when Weeks tagged up and raced home to score on a fly ball caught in shallow left field to make the score 5-3.

El Paso got within one when Austin Hedges lined a home run over the center field batter’s eye, his first longball of the regular season. It was Hedges who tied the game one inning later with a two-out RBI single to left field.

The Chihuahuas were unable to turn the comeback into a win because of Reno’s ninth-inning rally.

Chihuahuas’ pitcher Michael Kirkman tossed two 1-2-3 relief innings to aid El Paso’s comeback attempt. Hedges and Nick Noonan had two hits apiece for El Paso.
