The UTEP volleyball team took a tough loss to Oklahoma in its last match of the 2015 Borderland Invitational.
The Sooners swept the Miners 3-0, while outscoring them 25-23, 25-17, 25-14 in the three frames.
Coline Coessens led UTEP with 10 kills but was the only Miner who notched double figures in the category. The team only achieved 28 kills during the match. The Orange and Blue hit just .070, while the Sooners cruised with a .262 hitting mark.
The Miners began the match with confidence as they moved out to a 9-4 lead early in the first set. UTEP looked to be in control but the Sooners were able to pick up momentum and closed out the set winning 25-23.
Oklahoma took a 14-8 lead early in the second frame before the Miners began to deliver kills by Talia Jones, Kylie Baumgartner and Jones. Despite their efforts, the miners dropped the set 25-17 giving the Sooners a 2-0 lead.
Oklahoma continued their hot play in the third frame, streaking out to a 6-1 lead and never looked back. The Sooners took the final stanza 25-14 and won the match 3-0.
UTEP will be back in action on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. MT as they take on Texas Tech in Memorial Gym.
