Beginning today, October 30, 2015, the Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority (CRRMA) will implement a Toll Waiver Program on the César Chávez Express Toll Lanes for disabled veterans and recipients of the Purple Heart, Medal of Honor, or Legion of Valor.
Eligible veterans may drive free of charge on the César Chávez Express Toll Lanes once they have applied for and received a valid Veteran Toll Waiver Program TollTag from the CRRMA.
Eligible veterans must be in a vehicle actively registered with the State of Texas, display a disabled veteran, Purple Heart, Medal of Honor, or Legion of Valor specialty license plate, and have a valid Veteran Toll Waiver Program TollTag to be eligible for the program.
To be eligible for the Program, veterans must have a vehicle registered with the State of Texas and displaying a disabled veteran, Purple Heart, Medal of Honor, or Legion of Valor specialty license plate. Veterans without a current disabled veteran specialty license plate may apply for a specialty plate if they are certified by the Veterans Administration to have a 50 percent service-related disability, or 40% due to amputation of a lower extremity.
In the El Paso area, eligible veterans may drive free of charge on the César Chávez Express Toll Lanes. Future toll lanes operated by the CRRMA will be added, but no other toll lanes are currently included in this Program. Program participants using the Program’s TollTag in other areas will incur the tolls and fees charged by that area’s toll roads.
To use the Program’s TollTag in other areas, please contact the North Texas Tollway Authority at (915) 351-8655 to add funds to the account associated with the Program’s TollTag. For information about other toll roads in Texas, and if they offer a similar program for disabled veterans, please contact the entity operating toll roads in that area.
All charges related to travel on the César Chávez Express Toll Lanes before the effective date of the Veteran Toll Waiver Program must be paid in full. This includes any toll charges, administrative fees, or violation fees associated with tolls owed prior to October 30, 2015.
Details about how to apply for the plates are available at the Texas Department of Motor vehicles website
Veterans may apply for the Veteran Toll Waiver Program by visiting the Atkins North America, Inc. office located at 404 Executive Center Boulevard or by calling (915) 533-6601 between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.
Qualifying veterans will be given a TollTag to be mounted in the vehicle. If your vehicle’s TollTag is not correctly identified and you are charged for your tolls, please call (915) 533-6601 for assistance.
