UTEP Tennis’ Kulicke Honored by C-USA

IRVING, Texas – UTEP women’s tennis player, Vivienne Kulicke was recognized by Conference USA, collecting two awards announced by the league on Friday.

Kulicke was named the C-USA Newcomer of the Year and a First-Team All-C-USA Singles selection. She is the first in school history to earn the awards since UTEP joined C-USA in 2005.

The Hamburg, Germany, product totaled an overall record of 25-10 in singles play in her first year at UTEP, while registering 21 wins in straight sets. Kulicke went 15-5 at the No. 1 position in dual matches, picking up notable singles wins versus Iowa St., Wyoming, No. 56 New Mexico and Arizona State’s Desirae Krawczyk, who was ranked No. 34 at the time.

Kulicke went on a 10-match winning streak from Jan. 29 to Mar. 18 before dropping a match to Miriam Rosell of UTSA (Mar. 19).

The sophomore became the first nationally ranked tennis athlete for UTEP in over 20 years when she broke into the ITA national rankings on Feb. 23. She remained among the top-125 for nine-straight weeks with a career-best at No. 107.
