The UTEP volleyball team fell to No. 22 Western Kentucky, 0-3 (25-27, 18-25, 15-25) in Memorial Gym on Sunday.
The Miners drop to 7-20 overall and 1-11 in Conference USA while Western Kentucky moves to 24-3 and 11-1 in C-USA.
Talia Jones paced the offense with nine kills and added a dig and a block. Junior Lindsey Larson notched 21 assists, seven digs, seven kills, two blocks and a service ace. Freshman Kylie Baumgartner recorded six kills, five blocks and a dig.
The match opened up to a point for point battle in the first set as the score saw 12 ties and seven lead changes. A kill from Larson tied the frame at 25 but the Hilltoppers responded with back-to-back kills to claim a 27-25 set victory.
UTEP trailed 9-13 but kept it close early in the second frame until a 6-1 run by Western Kentucky extended its lead to 19-10. The Miners went on a 3-0 run of their own late in the set but it was not enough as the Toppers took the stanza 25-18.
The teams went back and forth early in the third but Western Kentucky extended the lead once again with a 9-1 run. UTEP was only able to hammer two more set points as the Toppers ultimately claimed the frame 25-15 and the match 3-0.
The UTEP volleyball team will continue in action at home as they set to battle it out against UAB on Friday at 3 p.m. (MT) and Louisiana Tech at 1 p.m. (MT) on Sunday.
