Annual Border Learning Conference set for February; Journalist Bob Moore to be Honored

This week, organizers of the Border Learning Conference announced the date for the annual gathering, as well as the recipient of this year’s Crossing Borders Award.

Now in its 19th year, the conference will take place Thursday, February 20 at the Wyndham El Paso Airport Hotel.  Officials also announced that this year’s conference theme would be “Perfecting our vision for the future.”

“The Border Learning Conference is a program of practical teaching demonstrations, presentations, round table discussions, and forums that address issues of learning along the border, Crystal Robert, Border Learning Conference Chair said.

“Professional educators, staff, and administrators involved with issues of teaching and learning along the border bring their concerns and expertise to a dynamic program that presents teaching practices and explores issues”

Organizers added that the conference will include a presentation of the 2020 Crossing Borders Award to Bob Moore.

Over the past two years Moore, former editor of the El Paso Times and now founder of El Paso Matters, a nonprofit news organization, has broke several major national stories about the Trump administration’s border enforcement efforts.

In 2013, Moore was awarded the Benjamin C. Bradlee Editor of the Year Award by the National Press Foundation, the nation’s highest honor for a newspaper editor.

The Crossing Borders Award celebrates individuals whose outstanding work has contributed to the improvement of communities within the border region.
