Frank Garces pitched seven innings without allowing an earned run in the El Paso Chihuahuas’ 5-2 win over the Fresno Grizzlies Monday night at Southwest University Park. Brandon Morrow and Kevin Quackenbush tossed scoreless relief outings to close the game, with Quackenbush striking out the only three batters he saw in the ninth inning.
El Paso hit two long home runs Monday. Patrick Kivlehan hit a solo shot in the third, his first longball for a Padres’ affiliate. One inning later, Nick Torres launched a two-run, go-ahead homer to left, his third in only 12 Triple-A games this season.
Austin Hedges added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single.
Torres has reached base in seven of his last 10 plate appearances. The Chihuahuas are now 9-5 against Fresno this season.
