33rd annual Socorro ISD Spring Games set for Wednesday
The 33rd Annual Socorro Independent School District Spring Games, one of Team SISD’s most popular events, will be April 3 at the Student Activities Complex.
More than 800 special needs students will participate in track and field events, such as 10- and 25-meter walks, assisted walks and 25, 50, 100, 200 and 400-meter runs.
Other events include relay and wheelchair races with and without assistance.
A large audience of parents, families, teachers, students and community members are expected to attend the games to root for the student-athletes. Elementary students will compete from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and secondary athletes (middle and high school) will have their contest from 2 to 5:30 p.m.
Both sessions will begin with a mini parade that will include athletes, SISD administrators, teachers, staff and more than 200 volunteers.
Since it is endorsed by Special Olympics Texas, the Spring Games are a local SOTX competition with our students being SOTX Athletes in Training. They will have opportunities to compete city and statewide.
