Coach Archie Duran
The 3rd Annual Coach Archie Duran Memorial 5K Run & Walk returns with a twist, a year after it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Organizers say the virtual event, taking place April 4 through 10, will honor the life and legacy of former Jefferson and Irvin High School teacher and coach, Archie Duran, who passed away in a bus accident during a high school sports trip four years ago.
“We’re holding a virtual 5K event this year to meet the new norms we are currently experiencing as a community. We are excited to honor my brother’s life and legacy by creating more scholarship opportunities for El Paso area students” said Alex Duran, Coach Duran’s brother.
Race participants will have the opportunity to complete the 3.1 mile run/walk the week of April 4-10 at the place and pace of their choice.
Participants who register before March 29 will have the option to pick-up their race packet on April 1st at The Hoppy Monk (4141 North Mesa) or have their packet shipped to them via USPS.
Individual registration fee is $25.00 per runner/walker. All proceeds will go towards the Coach Archie Duran Memorial Foundation which provides scholarships to El Paso area students who seek to pursue a higher education.
