51’s Abduct Chihuahuas’ Lead, Win Game 6-4

The El Paso Chihuahuas dropped the first game of their brief road trip to Las Vegas, falling to the 51s 6-4 on Tuesday night at Cashman Field.

After the Chihuahuas’ first two batters of the game reached base, the team went ahead 1-0 on Diego Goris’ RBI groundout. El Paso added two more tallies in the third on a ground ball into a double play with a runner at third and Hunter Renfroe’s RBI double to go ahead 3-0.

The Chihuahuas’ early lead was quickly erased by the 51s’ five-run third inning. Las Vegas batted around in the frame, collecting four hits, while also taking advantage of a walk and an El Paso defensive miscue.

Trailing 5-4, the Chihuahuas had baserunners in both the seventh and eighth innings but did not score. Johnny Monell’s solo home run gave Las Vegas an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. Carlos Asuaje went 3-for-4 with a double in the loss.
