Team SISD is celebrated the global Hour of Code with students and teachers participating in various activities to learn the basics of computer coding on Friday.
SISD’s Hour of Code reinforces the district’s commitment to Operation Future Ready, a districtwide initiative to ensure all students are engaging in relevant and rigorous digital learning to prepare them to be globally competitive graduates.
“Team SISD is embracing the Hour of Code to give as many students as possible a foundation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in an engaging and meaningful manner,” said SISD Superintendent Dr. José Espinoza. “Our priority is to prepare students for college, careers and life. Giving them a fun way to learn coding can open their eyes to an exciting education and career in technology.”
The Hour of Code is one hour of activity in which students from kindergarten through 12th grade will gain an introduction to computer science, demystifying code and showing them that anybody can learn code.
The event provides coding tutorials for all teachers to share with students as enrichment activities, computer clubs, and/or alternative assignments. SISD students will learn solo, in pairs or in groups to be empowered in computer science and coding activities.
The Hour ofCode is being celebrated around the world this week in honor of Computer Science Education Week, Dec. 7-13.
