Cager Foundation Championships set for Wedensday
What started as an after school program in YISD, has now developed in to a private after school program reaching into all school districts in the El Paso region.
The 2015 Willie Cager School-Only Youth Basketball Championships helps at-risk children excel by teaching the importance of education, exercise, leadership and sportsmanship through basketball.
This program gives children an opportunity to play organized basketball with their friends within their elementary schools, before they move on to middle school, developing lifetime friendships, skills, and memories. This year the league had 30 teams with just under 300 children participating with Willie Cager present at almost every game.
The Willie Cager Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to helping at-risk children excel by teaching the importance of education, exercise, leadership and sportsmanship through basketball. This is done through programs such as the “Willie Cager School Only Youth Basketball League” and the “Willie Cager Summer Camps” that the foundation holds annually.
