The incomparable Cellist Pablo Casals, in his performances throughout his long career and in his quest for Peace, performed on a cello made by Matteo Gofriller in 1733. Now, Cellist for the Tempest Trio, Amit Peled, opening this week’s 2016 El Paso Pro-Musica Chamber Music Fest will perform on that cello in El Paso.
Artistic Director of El Paso Pro-Musica and world renowned cellist Zuill Bailey performs on a cello also created by Matteo Gofriller in Venice in 1693 ( Bach was only eight years old when the cello was created.)
Casals and Schneider performed together in Jerusalem in 1961. The cellos will be reunited on Thursday at the Free Noon-Time presentation of Bach’s Lunch presented by the El Paso Museum of Art and sponsored by United Bank of El Paso Del Norte.
Each Thursday in the month of January, a special Free Concert will be presented at 12:00 p.m.in the C2 Gallery of the El Paso Museum of Art.
