LAS VEGAS – Thássane Abrahim picked up a win in singles play as the UTEP tennis team wrapped up competition at the prestigious ITA Mountain Regionals on Friday.
“This event really showed us how much we need to work to be competitive in our region,” UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. “The team is motivated to work hard to keep improving before our spring championship season.”
Abrahim set the tone for the Orange and Blue by dominating Leslie Fujitani (UNLV), 6-1, 6-0. Lina Sáchica locked up with Zara Ryan (Utah State). The junior secured the first set, 6-3, but couldn’t keep it going and fell, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3). Erandi Martinez was upended by Sydney Fitch (Air Force), 6-0, 6-4.
Eve Daniels was knocked off by Marta Magalhaes (Idaho), 7-6, 6-3. Kathleen Percegona was tripped up by Madison Wolfe (Northern Colorado), 6-2, 6-3.
The Miners have now concluded the fall portion of their schedule.
