A legendary biopic about a legendary Chicano rock star calls for Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Montecillo to throw a legendary movie party.
Alamo’s LA BAMBA MOVIE PARTY takes place Friday, September 27, 2019, at 7:30 p.m.
“Sing and dance (in your chair) at La Bamba Movie Party to all the iconic Richie Valens songs – “La Bamba,” “Come On, Let’s Go,” and “Oh Donna,” Alamo Drafthouse officials shared via an email. “…La Bamba will leave you singing “Para Bailar La Bamba, Para Bailar La Bamba” over and over again!”
Directed by Luis Valdez, ‘La Bamba’ is the biographical story chronicling the brief life of Ritchie Valens, a rock and roll pioneer and a forefather of the Chicano rock movement, whose eight-month career ended after he died in a plane crash with Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper.
“Keep an eye out for the smaller moments in the film — it shines when it shows everyday life: interactions between mother and son, siblings who both duel for attention, but also deeply love each other,” Alamo officials said. “These moments, more than the concert scenes that cover his rocket-rise to fame, bring a rich humanity to the life of Ritchie Valens.”
Lou Diamond Phillips stars as Richie Valens, alongside Esai Morales and Rosanna Desoto and of course Donna, played by Danielle von Zerneck.
