The Department of Animal Services is excited to announce its new partnership with the Petco Foundation, following the award of a $90,000 grant, which will support the expansion of Animal Services’ adoptions department to provide the community low-cost and convenient ways of adopting a shelter pet.
The grant will be used to support offsite adoption efforts, including the current active recruitment of an Offsite Adoption Coordinator, expand the reach to other communities around the city, participate in Petco adoption events and offset costs in offering the community low-cost adoptions.
The Department of Animal Services anticipates that official Petco offsite events will typically adopt out a dozen animals or more per event, allowing more shelter pets the chance to find their forever home.
“We’re very excited to have the Petco Foundation as a partner,” said Kurt Fenstermacher, Interim Director of the Department of Animal Services. “With the City’s plans of having a 90% live-release rate average by 2020, this grant will help accelerate the program, and assist us in expanding our adoption efforts, finding homes for more shelter pets and offer the El Paso community with more opportunities to adopt in the comfort of their neighborhood.”
Fenstermacher added, “The grant will also allow us to offer El Paso residents with more chances to adopt a shelter pet at a lower adoption rate thanks to the Petco Foundation grant offsetting adoption costs.”
