On Tuesday, officials with El Paso Animal Services announced the establishment of new lifesaving procedures to prepare for the typically busy spring and summer months.
To reach its “no-kill” goal, El Paso Animal Services asking for the community’s help.
The new lifesaving procedures require many areas of the center to be cleared out. For this reason, the department is asking for the community’s support in this initiative by adopting, fostering, donating and/or reconnecting with a lost pet.
“The closer to “no-kill” the City gets, the harder it becomes to reach a 90% live-release rate or higher, but Animal Services and its partners are working proactively to continue saving lives,” officials shared.
On Saturday, February 2, adoption fees will be free for all pets. Animal Services is hopeful that reduced fees will result in hundreds of animals finding their forever homes. All adoptions will include the pet’s spay/neuter procedure, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and city license.
For those able to provide a temporary home to a pet in need, fostering is a great option. Fostering a pet will free up space for other incoming pets at the shelter, and will also give Animal Services the opportunity to transfer more animals to other rescues and shelters.
If you don’t have space for a new friend at home, another way to support the shelter’s life-saving efforts is to donate to our various programs and initiatives:
- Dry Dog and Cat Food
- Crates and Pet Carriers
- Canned Puppy and Kitten Food
- Towels and Blankets (new or gently used)
ASEP officials add that over 50 lost pets come into the center daily—many without collars or microchips. They say to help reunite pets with their families, they encourage the community to make sure their pets wear a collar with identification tags, and make sure their pet’s microchip is updated with current contact information.
Animal Services is also continuing to waive pet reclaim fees throughout the month of February. To view found pets, visit the Animal Services center daily and check the “Found Pets” webpage.
