Thursday afternoon, city officials announced that Cats at the Zoo (CATZ) Pet Encounter and Adoption Center, a first-of-its-kind pet adoption experience in the nation to be located inside a zoo, will open this weekend.
“The progressive program will give visitors a hands-on encounter with domesticated felines, who will be ready to go home with loving adopters,” city officials shared.
While this new feature will be open Friday through Sunday during the Zoo’s regular operating hours, officials will hold a soft opening.
According to officials, the soft opening of the center will allow Animal Services’ staff to train for the future opening of this unique encounter, while allowing visitors to enter this highly anticipated zoo attraction.
A grand opening celebration will be scheduled for later this year, in coordination with an extended operating schedule.
Officials add that last year, more than 1,500 cats were adopted by loving families through El Paso Animal Services.
