The El Paso Chihuahuas were six outs away from a series sweep Friday, but the Salt Lake Bees scored six times in the bottom of the eighth and won 8-6.
The Chihuahuas brought in at least one run in the first three innings of the game and built up a 6-2 lead by the seventh inning. Salt Lake’s eighth-inning rally included 10 batters and multi-run, extra-base hits by Eric Young Jr. and Shane Robinson.
Chihuahuas manager Rod Barajas and reliever Jose Valdez were ejected on separate plays in the eighth, the first two ejections of the season for the Chihuahuas, and the first for Barajas in his two seasons as El Paso’s manager.
Matt Magill was on line for the win after Salt Lake’s late success against the Chihuahuas bullpen, pitching the first seven innings of the game and allowing only two runs. Chihuahuas catcher Tony Cruz went 3-for-4 with an RBI double, while also catching a Bees running trying to steal.
The Chihuahuas won three of the four games and finished their time in Salt Lake this season with six wins and three losses at Smith’s Ballpark.
