Beto O’Rourke releases 10 years of tax returns

Former congressman Beto O’Rourke released 10 years’ worth of tax returns Monday night, becoming the latest 2020 presidential contender to reveal information about his personal finances.

The Democratic candidate’s disclosure came shortly after Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., who is also running for president, released his tax returns dating back to 2009.

The returns show that O’Rourke and his wife, Amy, made more than $370,000 in 2017, the most recent year for which they released returns. That amount includes O’Rourke’s $162,211 salary as a member of Congress representing Texas and more than $11,000 from Stanton Street Technology, an El Paso-based Internet company O’Rourke co-founded in 1999.

It also includes about $53,000 in income from the Council on Regional Economic Expansion and Educational Development, or CREEED. Amy O’Rourke has worked as a consultant for the philanthropic organization, which aims to improve the academic performance of students in the El Paso area.

Earlier in the day, O’Rourke told reporters that he would release his tax returns in an effort to be transparent with voters — and he criticized President Trump for not doing the same.

“If he must be compelled through a subpoena to do so, so be it,” O’Rourke said, following a town hall in Charlotte on Monday morning. “But everyone who runs to seek that office should release their taxes.”

  1. Why didn’t he release his 2018 return? Hiding something? So much for transparency. The big news is O’Rourke could only raise around $9 million in campaign contributions for the first quarter of 2019. President Trump raised $30 million. Even Bernie and Harris beat him. What he raised when he ran against Cruz was money from people that wanted to turn Texas blue not so much for him. I predict he will drop out before Super Tuesday next year.

  2. $11K from his Stanton Street Technology business? What a joke. That is truly sad. There are reports out that he funneled some campaign funds ($100,000) during his Texas run against Cruz to Stanton Street. Questionable and shady business dealings.

  3. Wow! So he released 10 years of tax returns you could probably do on TurboTax at home. What a joke!

  4. Follow the money trail. Now we can scrutinize his 2017 tax returns. He sold his Imperial Arms Apartments in the lower valley by Avenue of the Americas to a Patricia Isha Babel Rogers in 2017. She was a major campaign contributor during his failed senate run. A so called real estate magnate in El Paso. O’Rourke wouldn’t say what he really made on the sale but the 2017 tax returns should show if he was being candid and truthful in his responses. Further he claimed Patricia Rogers was a childhood friend of his but she is 57 years old so that is doubtful since there is a 10 year difference in age. There is a bigger story here for any real investigative journalists to pursue.

  5. One thing for sure is O’Rourke is definitely a tight wad when it comes to charitable contributions or simply not a charitable giving person. Based on his own admissions reported by the mainstream media he is obviously confused as to what a charitable donation really is. No it is not your government service while drawing a paycheck or not reporting it to the IRS because it was too much trouble. Regardless a review of his tax returns shows he donated less than 1% of his earnings each tax year to charity.

Compared to the other Democrat candidates (2017 tax year)

    Beto – 0.31%
    Harris – 1.4%
    Gillibrand – 1.7%
    Klobuchar – 1.9%
    Sanders – 3.4%
    Inslee – 4%
    Warren – 5.5%

  6. FOX News looked at his taxes, and they report that he shorted the IRS about $4,000. Tax evasion must run in the family.

    • The Wall Street Journal and left leaning media reported the same so he is fair game. Transparency coming back to bite him. It was the 2013 and 2014 tax years based on a bogus medical expenses claim that he and his wife were not entitled to. His campaign reported O’Rourke will now file amended returns for those years. Of course after he got caught. Like mother like son. O’Rourke’s arrogance, ignorance and pettiness coming back to bite him. Eating popcorn.

  7. More interesting news on his tax returns. O’Rouirke has been donating to the Annunciation House in El Paso for several years since 2013. For example he donated $5000 in 2013 and $1000 in 2017. Anecdotal proof he supports illegal immigrants over his U.S. constituents. All part of his theme of open borders and no barriers.

  8. O’Rourke will never be President of the good ole U.S.A……….PERIOD!

    • Considering some of the crap he has spouted in the last two weeks, I doubt that he could ever run for office in El Paso again!

      • I predict he’ll be out on his tush right after the Iowa caucuses but before the Super Tuesday primaries. That Indiana gay white mayor has surpassed Beto as the leftist media darling. Soon we will be saying Beto who? During the November 2018 senatorial election libtards voted for him to turn Texas blue not so much for Beto the candidate, He was born to be a loser.
