Binational Candlelight AIDS Vigil to Promote Awareness and Testing Tonight

The City of El Paso Department of Public Health’s HIV Prevention in collaboration with non-profit agencies from surrounding areas and across the US/Mexico border will unite to host the 25th Annual AIDS Candlelight Vigil and Health Fair on Friday, May 13th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the newly-renovated San Jacinto Plaza in downtown El Paso.

The event is intended to increase community awareness of HIV/AIDS, stop stigma and discrimination, provide preventative education to the community, and empower people impacted by the disease.

As of 2014, over 80,000 persons were known to be living with HIV in Texas and a total of 2,030 people living with HIV in the   El Paso region.

The City of El Paso Department of Public Health’s HIV Prevention, La Fe CARES Clinic, Project Vida Health Center, Aliviane, University Medical Center Women’s Health Center, and The Empowerment Center among others are gathering to bring awareness to the community by hosting this year’s vigil.
