When asked what he enjoys about coming home, Holguin says, “From the death of Michael Jackson to SuperStorm Sandy, I’ve been lucky enough to report on some of the biggest breaking news stories of the past decade, but I consider myself extremely lucky to be given an opportunity to come home while also working at a first-rate news operation. I look forward to re-connecting with the viewers in my hometown and to be close to my beautiful family.”

Holguin was born and raised in Vado, NM.  He went to Gadsden High School and later went on to graduate from New Mexico State University.

He started as a reporter for the Associated Press in Seattle, where he covered everything from pro sports to pop culture. His work focused on the grunge movement in music, and he was the first reporter at the home of Kurt Cobain when the Nirvana frontman committed suicide in 1994. Robert also reported for USA Today in Washington, D.C.

Holguin joined the El Paso Times in 1998, where his award winning reporting extensively covered the Mexican drug trade and the unsolved murders of hundreds of women in Ciudad Juarez.

In 2000 Holguin was hired at KVIA in El Paso as a general assignment reporter. He served as weekend anchor before eventually taking over as co-host of the station’s top-rated morning show.

He returns to El Paso from Los Angeles, where he worked at KABC for the past 10 years.
