The Border Regional Library Association named Brown Middle School’s Trish Becker Johnson as its 2022 Librarian of the Year.
Becker Johnson has been a librarian for 12 years, 11 of those at Brown.
“This is an exciting and wonderful honor,” she said. “I am so blessed to be able to represent our district and my school. There are so many excellent librarians in EPISD, and this is such a privilege to be able to represent them all.”
Becker Johnson’s favorite part of being a librarian is creating fun and engaging opportunities for students visiting the library.
“Books, fun and introducing students to new and exciting genres, literature, or stories and getting them excited about being in the library are the best parts of my job,” Becker Johnson said. “My new favorite book is ‘Starfish’ by Lisa Fipps. It is a novel in verses, and I just love how quickly the story develops. It is a good, easy, fast read.”
BRLA is an organization that supports PK-12, university and community college librarians throughout the region. The organization provides scholarships, presents awards, gives librarians a venue to discuss their professional and review books.
“This is just an amazing honor and I am really blessed and fortunate to work in a district where librarians are valued and respected,” Becker Johnson said.
