C-USA Announces Reynaldo Flores & Ty’Reke James to All-Academic Team

UTEP’s Reynaldo Flores and Ty’Reke James were named to the 2022 Conference USA All-Academic team as announced by league officials on Thursday.

Besides excelling on the field, Flores and James strived in the classroom. Both graduate students, Flores has maintained a perfect 4.00 GPA in Mechanical Engineering, while James has a 3.87 in the Leadership Studies graduate program.

Flores and James are the first UTEP football student-athletes to earn a spot on the prestigious list since 2019 (Treyon Hughes), while they are the first multiple Miners to be named all-academic since 2009 (Greg Hiett, Cameron Raschke and Jeremy Springer).

Flores is a five-time honoree as a C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medalist, along with being a five-time member on the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022). James is a two-time member on the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll (2021, 2022).

On the field, Flores produced breakout numbers in his final season on the gridiron. The graduate of Ysleta High School led the Miners with five rushing touchdowns, while ranking second in total touchdowns with six (5 rush, 1 rec.). Flores also ranked second in receptions (49), receiving yards (534) and all-purpose yards (828), while ranking third on the team in rushing (276). Flores averaged 7.3 yards per carry on 38 attempts. On senior day against FIU, Flores rushed for a career-high 128 yards and a career-best two rushing touchdowns. Flores added 74 yards on the ground and a rushing score at UTSA to conclude his career. Flores opened the 2022 campaign with 122 yards receiving on eight catches – both career highs. He produced his first career receiving score against Florida Atlantic.

James ranked fourth on the team with 52 tackles after starting in nine of the last 10 games. He added 2.5 tackles for loss with two breakups, a hurry, fumble return (26 yards) and a forced fumble. James tallied his first career interception at New Mexico and added five tackles versus the Lobos. James was credited with a career-high seven tackles, while forcing a fumble and recovering another for 26 yards during UTEP’s win over FAU. James recorded four stops and a breakup in the Miners’ win over rival NM State.
