DALLAS – UTEP earned a trio of Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week presented by Top of the World the league announced on Tuesday.
Senior Sean Bailey, sophomore Chantoba Bright and redshirt junior Karol Koncos competed at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational hosted by the University of New Mexico with much success this past weekend.
Bailey was named the C-USA Male Track Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career after posting a personal-best 46.51 in the 400m at the MLK Invite. The Spanish Town, Jamaica, product registered the no. 1 time in C-USA, while it ranked seventh nationally.
Bright was named the C-USA Female Field Athlete of the Week after winning her first collegiate event, leaping to a 6.01 in the long jump. The Wismar Linden, Guyana, product recorded the longest leap in C-USA. It’s Bright’s second career indoor athlete of the week honor.
Koncos was named the C-USA Male Field Athlete of the Week, the first during his career, after hurling a 19.97m in the weight throw. The native of Vidina, Slovakia, tossed the longest weight throw in C-USA.
The Miners will return to action at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in Albuquerque February 7-8.
