DALLAS – UTEP soccer’s Emerson Kidd earned the Conference USA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, and presented by Surf & Turf Golf.
Kidd’s efforts lifted UTEP to a 2-1 victory in overtime against LA Tech to open league play at University Field on Feb. 28. Kidd’s first career goal gave the Miners a 1-0 advantage after the sophomore defender converted on a header off a corner kick in the 26th minute.
She registered three shots with a pair of shots on goal. Kidd had 82 passes (83 percent accurate) and posted 12 recovered balls with 10 interceptions. She recorded 70 percent winning challenges, 80 percent winning air challenges and 75 percent winning tackles.
Kidd is the first Miner since 2016 to be named Defensive Player of the Week when Lauren Crenshaw earned the honor on September 6. Kidd is only the third Miner since 2013 to earn the defensive weekly award.
UTEP will take the road to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to take on Southern Miss on Saturday, March 6. The Miners and Golden Eagles are slated to kickoff at 12 p.m. MT.
