C-USA Tournament bound Miners return home to face No. 21 Rice

The UTEP volleyball team (13-13, 6-7) punched its ticket to the Conference USA Tournament on Thursday night, and will take on No. 21 Rice (23-2, 12-2) Saturday at 12 p.m., at Memorial Gym.

Although the Miners fell to Charlotte Thursday evening, the losses from UAB and Middle Tennessee helped UTEP clinch its first C-USA tournament berth since 2016.

The Orange and Blue will be looking to secure the seventh seed with a victory over No. 21 Rice on “Senior Day”. UTEP took the Owls to five sets last season at home, and in 2017 defeated them under the lights of Memorial Gym.

Head Coach Ben Wallis has brought UTEP volleyball its most wins since 2013, the most conference victories since 2016, first ever C-USA Freshman of the Week and now the first conference tourney trip in three years.

UTEP is 6-2 at home this season, and will look to give its five seniors another victory at Memorial before heading to Houston, Texas, for a shot at the C-USA crown.
