Canutillo ISD officials announced Thursday that Chief Business Officer Martha E. Piekarski was nominated by the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (TxCPA) to serve on the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Council at the national level.
“I am humbled and honored by their confidence in me,” Piekarski said. “Currently, I am a State Director. This nomination takes me to the next level of service.”
TxCPA is the largest, most influential association of accounting and finance professionals in Texas. Members of the society are empowered to lead, prosper, and serve their communities. The Society has supported Piekarski for over 20 years creating connections and providing support in her professional endeavors.
The Texas CPA Nominations Committee recommended that Ms. Piekarski, along with two other nominees, be forwarded to the AICPA to serve as representatives from Texas for a three-year term from May 2022 through May 2025.
According to the AICPA, the Council meets twice a year with approximately 265 members and representatives from every state and U.S. Territory. The governing body examines the present, envisions the possible, and embraces new ways of working.
Piekarski says that her challenge is allocating available resources and creating solutions for each department to work more effectively and ultimately more efficiently. She aligns the Division’s goal of safeguarding, servicing, and shaping to meet the District’s mission of teaching and learning for success.
“Now, more than ever, we need to create transparency, opportunity, and prosperity for our district,” Piekarski added. “There are always new challenges and we have accepted today’s challenges as tomorrow’s possibilities.”
Also, recently Piekarski was appointed to the Ethics Committee at the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) by their Board of Directors. ASBO International provides programs, resources, services, and a global network to school business professionals who are passionate about quality education.
She will serve a three-year term which will end on December 31, 2023.
