Canutillo ISD police, security audit shows opportunity for improvement

On Friday, Officials with the Canutillo Independent School District (CISD) released the results of their Police and Security Department Internal and external audits.

“We value the service of our Canutillo ISD Police & Security Department who keep our students and staff safe. Canutillo ISD is not defunding its own Police & Security Department and is not eliminating police or security from its campuses. Any claims to the contrary are simply false and designed to mislead the community,” district officials shared.

Canutillo ISD officials said they are making operating and oversight changes to its police services and the CISD police department.

“The recent audits, performance of management within the department, and a review of the department overall require necessary changes to be made,” district officials shared via a news release.

District officials pointed out that, as with any audit, the district uses the findings to ensure fiscal responsibility and enhance operating procedures and resources.

“Since the audit process began, district police and security have been making the recommended changes and continuous improvements. CISD remains committed to ensuring the safety of its students and the community,” officials added.
