Cathedral High Announces Appointment of Pamela Cook Howard as New Principal

On Thursday afternoon, Cathedral High School officials announced the appointment of Pamela Cook Howard to the position of Principal, effective July 21, 2017.

As the twenty-fourth principal in CHS history, Ms. Howard brings many gifts and talents to the Cathedral Irish community. Her extensive background as an educator includes Horizon High School principal, Frank Macias Elementary School principal,  Burleson Elementary School principal, Executive Director of Administration at Manor ISD in Manor, Texas and Assistant  Superintendent at El Paso ISD.

Her experience will ensure that she will advocate Cathedral’s mission of helping young students become men of faith. Ms. Howard is also a proud alumna of Loretto Academy.

“Of all the positions I’ve had in my 37 years of experience I feel incredibly blessed to begin a new journey in a place that is  filled with our Catholic traditions and excellence”, said Ms. Howard.

“Ms. Howard is definitely the right leader for Cathedral High at this time. She has a clear vision for enhancing our school so that we remain competitive and relevant while rooted in our tradition. As we enter our 93rd year, Ms. Howard will energize  our entire community”, said Brother Nick Gonzalez, President of Cathedral High School.

Ms. Howard is a native of El Paso. She holds a BA in Education from UT Austin and a Masters in Educational Leadership  from UT El Paso. She holds Texas Teaching Certificates in Education and Special Education as well as a Mid Management  Administrative Certificate. Ms. Howard was previously at Manor ISD as the Executive Director of Special Programs.

She enjoyed working with administrators and her department directors to enhance the Bilingual, Special Education, Academic  Fine Arts/UIL, Social Emotional Learning and Discipline to ensure strong programs for students. She began her career as a  special education teacher at Rusk Elementary in El Paso, TX. She has traveled and taught all over the world and is happy to  be home.

Ms. Howard succeeds Ms. Aurora Lujan, who retired in June after serving as a teacher and  administrator for thirty years at Cathedral.

After a local and national search, Ms. Howard was recommended by the  Principal Search Committee and selected by the CHS, Inc. Board. The chair is the Most Reverend Mark Joseph Seitz, Bishop  of El Paso.
