Over the last few months, the discussions over immigration have been intensified as the presidential election has evolved. Many in El Paso had a strong reaction over the invitation of well-known Notre Dame Football Coach, Lou Holtz to speak at Cathedral High.
As an educational institution, school officials felt they should be the vessel for the discussion of important issues, such as immigration.
Brother Nick Gonzalez, President of Cathedral High School stated,”This is a highly relevant and volatile issue. We hope to examine what’s driving the news: facts and/or sentiment.”
The roundtable discussion on the role of the Media in reporting about Immigration issues will be held this Thursday October 27th beginning at 6PM at the Cathedral High School’s Guereca Auditorium.
Panelists include Professor Richard Pineda Director of the Sam Donaldson Center for Communication Studies at UT El Paso; State Representative Mary Gonzalez of District 75; Uriel Posada, News Director for Univision; and Dylan Corbett, Director of Hope Border Insitute.
Cathedral officials add, “We welcome all of our community to this most important discussion and this event is free and open to the public…this event will hopefully bring awareness and an open space for people to express their thoughts regarding the issue.”
