Celebrate Valentine’s Day all month long at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema

Love is in the air this month and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is ready to bring joy to the hearts of you and your loved one with some classic tales of romance.

This month, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema’s XOXO series brings true love to the big screen, kicking off with a GREASE Sing-Along Party. The party includes a hand jive contest, along with Grease-related props such as candy cigarettes, a comb, ribbons and salon caps being handed out to T-Birds and Pink Ladies moviegoers.

Other sweet treats in the series include MARRY ME, showing on Valentines’ Day, along with BEFORE SUNRISE and ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND.  There will also be romantic brunch showings of PRETTY IN PINK and FIFTY SHADES OF GREY.

The love doesn’t end there as our passion continues with House Party: The Complete Harry Potter Series. The series, which started in January, continues this month with HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETSHARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN and HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE.

All this and more awaits at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Montecillo and East El Paso locations in the month of February.

GROUNDHOG DAY

Wednesday, February 2, at 7:30 p.m.

At first, Harold Ramis’ GROUNDHOG DAY seems like a typical Bill Murray comedy, with the iconic leading man standing one step away from the rest of humanity, always quick with an ironic insult. But the film cleverly turns Murray’s sarcastic outsider persona against him, and the film evolves into a sweet fable about humanity.

THE BIRDS

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Montecillo

Tuesday, February 22, at 7:30 p.m.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema East El Paso

Wednesday, February 23, at 7:30 p.m.

The most hair-raising movie ever inspired by a story from “Good Housekeeping” magazine (really!), THE BIRDS scared the living daylights out of everyone who saw it in 1963 and it remains first-rate nightmare fuel over 50 years later. It was also something of a nightmare for leading lady Tippi Hedren. Hedren, a former model and commercial spokeswoman, had no dramatic credits when Hitchcock saw her on TV and hired her to play Melanie Daniels, the initially carefree, fast-living blonde who unknowingly helps to trigger the birds’ fury.

TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Montecillo and East El Paso

Thursday, February 24, at 7:30 p.m.

We’re not going to talk about Judy, okay?

With the mainstream success of David Lynch and Mark Frost’ massively influential television series Twin Peaks, a feature film should have been a slam-dunk success. Instead, FIRE WALK WITH ME was despised when it came out. Met with boos at its Cannes premiere, a commercial flop at the box office and derided as a some sort of paranoid fever dream by critics.

But two decades later, the critical tune has changed. FIRE WALK WITH ME, a time-shifting prequel to the series, is now regarded as one of Lynch’s best films – a masterpiece alongside BLUE VELVET and MULHOLLAND DRIVE. That’s not to say it isn’t a fever dream at times – it’s a tonal-shift companion piece that shades in detail missing from the overall Twin Peaks grand narrative, acting as an epilogue and a bridge to the third season… which only took another twenty-five years or so to arrive.
