For the upcoming 2020 tax season, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program will hold a partner celebration to launch the tax assistance program.
The event – hosted by the Coalition for Family Economic Progress – will be held at the GECU Operations Center, located at 1225 Airway Boulevard, on Friday, January 24, 2020, at 1:30 p.m.
“VITA allows the people of El Paso to file their taxes free of charge. This program has been vital in our city because we have brought in millions of dollars back to the members of our community at no cost to families,” said Ruby Alvarez, GECU Community Development assistant vice president and EPAH/HOAP executive director.
“Our certified volunteers continue to make an incredible impact in the community by providing the people of El Paso with excellent, quality assistance.”
VITA filed more than 10,000 tax returns free of charge, giving back more than $16 million to individuals in the community in 2019, and saving families nearly $3 million in filing fees.
Individuals can file their taxes with a bilingual, IRS-certified volunteer and sit face-to-face with the tax preparers at any of the 25 VITA sites across the El Paso area.
“Coming this year is the new VITA mega site at 1220 Wedgewood Drive, off I-10 and McRae Boulevard, that will replace the GECU Operations Center and GECU Community Development sites,” GECU officials added.
