The El Paso Chihuahuas tied a team record with 23 hits Friday in their 16-8 win over the Oklahoma City Dodgers. The other Chihuahuas 23-hit game was June 5, 2016 at Fresno.
El Paso’s eighth inning produced nine runs, which also tied a team record. Oklahoma City used four pitchers in the long eighth-inning rally.
Oklahoma City led 5-0 in the second inning and 6-4 in the seventh before the Chihuahuas repeated late scoring. Oklahoma City also led 5-0 early in Game 1 of the 2016 PCL Championship Series in El Paso before the Chihuahuas came back to win.
Christian Villanueva went 5-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs for El Paso, joining Abraham Almonte, Franchy Cordero, Alex Dickerson, Rocky Gale and Manuel Margot as Chihuahuas to collect five hits in one game.
Franchy Cordero went 4-for-6, falling a home run shy of the cycle.
Rafael Ortega had four hits as well. Jose Pirela went 2-for-5 with two home runs, his second multi-home run game of the season.
