Carlos Pimentel had his second consecutive strong start in the El Paso Chihuahuas’ 4-0 shutout win over the Las Vegas 51s Sunday night at Cashman Field.
Pimentel has thrown 12 innings on the current road trip and hasn’t allowed any runs, while surrendering only three hits in that time. Relievers Daniel Moskos, Eric Yardley and Brandon Morrow finished the club-record eighth shutout.
Hector Sanchez started the Chihuahuas’ offense with a two-run home run in the first inning, his third homer in as many cities on this road trip. Diego Goris hit a high solo home run to left field and Taylor Lindsey dropped an RBI single into center field in the ninth to round out El Paso’s scoring.
Pimentel’s 11 wins are the most ever by a Chihuahuas’ hurler in a season. El Paso’s win put the club in first place by 8.5 games, the largest first place advantage in team history. Sunday was the third game in the last eight days that Chihuahuas’ pitching allowed three hits or less.
