The El Paso Chihuahuas trailed 4-0 at the seventh inning stretch Saturday but came back to beat the Fresno Grizzlies 6-4. It was the third straight game the Chihuahuas came back to go ahead in the eighth inning or later.
The Grizzlies hit three home runs, totaling four runs, over the course of the first six and a half innings to take a 4-0 lead. Nick Noonan’s two-run double in the bottom of the seventh made the score 4-2 Fresno.
El Paso erupted for four more runs in the bottom of the eighth in a rally that included 10 batters, RBI hits from Hunter Renfroe, Casey McElroy and Noonan, as well as the ejection of Fresno righty Jandel Gustave moments after he hit Manuel Margot with a pitch.
The Chihuahuas have now split the first two games of the series and have split their six games vs. Fresno this season. Houston Astros’ pitcher Lance McCullers tossed five shutout innings Saturday in an MLB rehab assignment at Southwest University Park.
