Chihuahuas Chew Up SkySox 5 to 3; Magic Number to Clinch now at 13

The El Paso Chihuahuas beat the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 5-3 Wednesday in a game that saw five different lead changes. The victory ended the Chihuahuas’ six-game losing streak and lowered the team’s magic number to 13.

Carlos Asuaje hit an RBI double in the top of the first to give the Chihuahuas a 1-0 lead. It was the third time in the first six games of the road trip that El Paso struck first.

After Colorado Springs went ahead 2-1, the Chihuahuas put two runners in scoring position in the top of the fifth and Manuel Margot’s double brought in both of them to put El Paso in front 3-2. Colorado Springs tied it again in the sixth, but the Chihuahuas’ two runs in the top of the seventh put them in front to stay.

El Paso starter Daniel McCutchen went six innings and allowed three runs to earn his 10th win of the season. He joins Carlos Pimentel as El Paso starters with double digit win totals.

New infielder Luis Sardinas went 2-for-5 with a tiebreaking RBI double in his second game as a Chihuahua.
