The El Paso Chihuahuas stopped the Iowa Cubs’ three-run ninth inning rally and hung on to win 7-6 Wednesday night at Southwest University Park. The two teams split the first two games of the series, with both games decided by one run.

Nick Buss went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Buss’ batting average remains at .367, which was tied for first in the Pacific Coast League entering play Wednesday.

El Paso starter Michael Kelly allowed three runs in six innings and picked up his third win in his last four starts. Chihuahuas’ relievers Brad Wieck and Jason Jester tossed a scoreless inning each.

  • The El Paso Chihuahuas looked good for most of the entire game, but then pitcher Capps came to pitch and the Iowa Cubs started scoring runs and almost took the game from the Diablos.
Good thing that Salt Lake Bees lost last night! Chihuahuas/Diablos two games out from first place.
