The Reno Aces beat the El Paso Chihuahuas 6-1 Sunday to earn a series win in the inaugural matchup of the year. The Chihuahuas were held to five hits, all singles, and did not have any walks in Sunday’s loss.
El Paso scored before their opponent for the first time this season when Hunter Renfroe hit an RBI single in the top of the first inning, one of three hits in the inning for the Chihuahuas. The Aces tied the game in the bottom of the first with a run on three hits of their own.
In the bottom of the third, Reno scored three unearned runs in a frame that included a throwing error by El Paso starter Justin Hancock. The Aces tallied two more late runs on an RBI single by pitcher Edgar Garcia, who had been 1-for-19 in his career, and an RBI single by Carlos Rivero. Five of Reno’s six runs came with two outs.
Derek Eitel pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in relief for El Paso.
