Chihuahuas Freeze Out Aces in 9th Inning, Snag 3-2 Win

The Reno Aces had the tying run at third base with no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday but lost to the El Paso Chihuahuas 3-2.

El Paso reliever Jonathan Aro was able to get three consecutive outs to end the game. It was 38 degrees in the ninth inning Wednesday.

Chihuahuas starter Chris Huffman pitched seven innings and didn’t allow an earned run to get his first win of the season. In the first two games of the series at Greater Nevada Field, El Paso starting pitching has thrown 13 innings and hasn’t allowed an earned run.

Travis Jankowski was caught stealing in the first inning, after the Chihuahuas were 8-for-8 in stolen base attempts entering play.

The Chihuahuas now have a 6-1 road record. El Paso committed one error Wednesday, ending a five-game errorless streak. The Chihuahuas also stopped a Reno rally in the 6th, when the Aces loaded the bases with no outs but did not score.
