Four El Paso pitchers combined to hold Fresno to a run on five scattered hits in the Chihuahuas’ 5-1 win over the Grizzlies on Tuesday night at Southwest University Park. Fresno did not have any hits until the sixth inning.
El Paso pitching has allowed only one earned run in the last 18 innings.
Austin Hedges hit a two-run home run in the first inning, his 18th of the season and later caught two Grizzlies trying to steal second base. Hedges is 12 for his last 26 with nine RBIs over the past six games.
Nick Torres went 2-for-4 with an RBI and has reached base nine times in his last 14 plate appearances. The Chihuahuas brought in two runs in the bottom of the sixth, an inning that began with four consecutive hits.
The Chihuahuas have won two games in a row and three of their last five. The club leads the Southern Division by eight games over second place Las Vegas with 26 games to play in the regular season.
