The El Paso Chihuahuas hit three home runs in their 6-1 win over the Iowa Cubs at Principal Park Monday night. Lefty Frank Garces came in from the bullpen to make a spot start and allowed only one run in five innings of work.
Aaron Northcraft, Derek Eitel and Rafael De Paula combined for four innings of shutout relief.
Hunter Renfroe had two outfield assists in the game, including throwing out Iowa’s Dan Vogelbach at the plate to end the sixth inning. A few minutes later, Renfroe hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh to put El Paso ahead 2-1.
Later in the inning, and 13 days after hitting a pinch-hit grand slam against the Chicago Cubs, Alex Dickerson hit a three-run pinch-hit home run against the Iowa Cubs, putting El Paso ahead 6-1 and extending Dickerson’s team-record hitting streak to 21 games.
Nick Noonan went 2-for-3 with a solo home run against his former San Francisco Giants teammate Jean Machi. Monday was the first time in 22 games El Paso did not reach nine team hits.
Chihuahuas’ pitching struck out 12 I-Cubs on Monday.
