Chihuahuas Introduce Diablos Days for 2017

To celebrate its rich baseball history, the Chihuahuas are bringing the Diablos name back to El Paso where it belongs for Diablos Days Wednesdays at Southwest University Park

Fans will get the first crack at purchasing tickets for Diablos Days when individual game tickets go on sale on Saturday, March 4th at 10 a.m.

On Wednesdays in 2017 (excluding June 14th, the U.S. Army’s Birthday presented by GECU), the Chihuahuas will travel back to 1987 and wear retro El Paso Diablos uniforms. These throwbacks feature red pinstripes with yellow accents, red socks and red cap with that classic Diablos text.

image001 (5)“We are extremely proud and excited to bring this iconic name and look back under the control of Minor League Baseball and more importantly, El Paso, its true home,” said Chihuahuas Vice President and General Manager Brad Taylor.

Diablos Days features uniforms from the 1987 season in honor of the 30th anniversary and the success of the late-80s’ teams.

In 1986, the Diablos won the Texas League Pennant and in 1988, had a young prospect named Gary Sheffield. Sheffield went on to become a nine-time Major League Baseball All-Star, slugging 509 homeruns during his 22-season career.

On top of wearing Diablos uniforms, the Chihuahuas will resurrect some of the sights and sounds of the Dudley Dome.

Fans are encouraged to bring their handkerchiefs to wave “Bye Bye Baby” as the visiting pitcher gets taken out of the game, get their voices ready to shout “We Want A HIT!” and more.

A complete new videoboard look with Diablos themes will complete the transformation of Diablos Days.

In honor of the U.S. Army’s 242nd Birthday Celebration presented by GECU on Wednesday, June 14th, the team will wear its Chihuahuas camo jerseys to pay tribute to our troops in place of Diablos uniforms.

Wednesdays will continue to feature Seniors Eat Free presented by CBS 4, 92.3 The Fox, Jose, Tricolor and El Paso Inc. where Chihuahuas guests ages 60 years and older will receive a free Jumbo Hotdog Meal.

Also new to the Days of the Week lineup are Salute to Service Thursdays and Flat Screen Fridays.

On Thursdays starting on April 20th, the Chihuahuas will thank all military and first responders, past and present, for their commitment to the community. To receive the special rate of $10 ticket in Zone E and enjoy the Thrifty Thursday specials, service members will simply need to present the appropriate ID.

New to Fetch the Fun Fridays, the Chihuahuas will be giving away four flat-screen TVs at each of its 14 Friday home games! There are unlimited ways fans will be able to win these TVs: dance contests, social media trivia, rock/paper/scissors and more! Contestants will have to be present at the game to win!

Headlining the 2017 promotional schedule are a replica PCL Championship Ring giveaway presented by Southwest University (April 9th), Core Four Bobblehead Series presented by GECU: Carlos Asuaje (May 15th), Manuel Margot (June 26th), Austin Hedges (July 24th) and Hunter Renfroe (August 14th), 90’s Night (June 3rd) and the return of Way Out West Fest Night (August 12th), to name a few!
