Chihuahuas’ Rally Falls Short, Dodgers Down Dogs 4-3

The El Paso Chihuahuas scored the final three runs of Monday’s game at Southwest University Park but lost to the Oklahoma City Dodgers 4-3.

Oklahoma City brought in four runs in a nine-batter first inning, the seventh time in the last eight games El Paso’s opponent has scored first.

The four-run lead held until the sixth, when Jose Pirela hit a solo home run to right field. It was Pirela’s fifth home run of the series, ninth of the season and seventh in his last nine games.

Jabari Blash hit a towering, pinch-hit, two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to get El Paso within one. It was the Chihuahuas first pinch-hit home run since Alex Dickerson’s at Iowa on May 23, 2016.

The Chihuahuas had baserunners in both the eighth and ninth innings but did not score. The Dodgers won three of the four games in the series.

Next Game: Tuesday, 6:35 pm at Smith’s Ballpark. El Paso RHP Dinelson Lamet (3-2, 3.23) vs. Salt Lake RHP Daniel Wright (2-1, 9.35). The game will air on 600 ESPN El Paso and www.epchihuahuas.com.
