The City of El Paso invites local young artists to participate in the annual 2022 Young Artist and Authors Showcase (YAAS) competition hosted by Sister Cities International.
This year’s theme, Generation Rescue: Sustainable Water for All, highlights the importance of climate change, its impact on water resources, and how it forces communities to implement changes.
The YAAS competition invites students between the ages of 13 to 18 to illustrate the theme through various forms of media including written compositions, paintings, digital media, photography, or music. The work must be submitted in a digital format with a descriptive paragraph and submissions for the competition are free of charge.
“We are excited about this opportunity for young artists and writers to learn the power their gifts have to call attention to challenges and issues that require global solutions,” said Ben Fyffe, Managing Director, Cultural Affairs & Recreation.
“This international competition provides our youth the opportunity to showcase their distinctive voice and speak to how our community views climate change and ongoing awareness about water resources here in our desert community of El Paso,” said Mayor Pro Tempore and Sisters Cities International Vice-Chair Peter Svarzbein. “I encourage the local school districts to participate in this competition. We will be able to demonstrate our culture, youth’s talent, and accomplishments on a global stage.”
Students can submit a digital copy of their artwork with a link or image of the work to firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline to participate in this competition is March 23, 2022.
