City Encourages Residents Recycle Live Holiday Trees

This holiday season, the Environmental Services Department (ESD) is asking residents to recycle their live holiday trees or other recyclables starting Tuesday, December 26, at all five Citizen Collection Stations (CCS).

There is no charge to recycle holiday trees. The fresh trees will be recycled and turned into mulch, which will then be available, free of charge, to all residential customers. The ESD asks residents to remove all decorative items before dropping off a tree.

The Citizen Collection Stations will be closed on Christmas Day, December 25, but will open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26. The CCS are located at:

  • 3510 Confederate
  • 1034 Pendale
  • 121 Atlantic
  • 4501 Hondo Pass
  • 2492 Harrison

Holiday Recyclables

Besides fresh trees, residents are also encouraged to recycle their cardboard gift boxes, wrapping paper and holiday cards, all of which are accepted in their blue recycling bins.

Materials that cannot be recycled include metallic wrapping paper, bows, ribbons, and foam. These items should be placed in the gray bin.

For more information on the Citizen Collection Stations or other services offered by Environmental Services, please visit the department’s website or call (915) 212-6000 or 3-1-1.
