City invites residents to celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month

Beginning Monday, the City of El Paso invites the community to celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month with a series of events throughout the month of July to promote wellness and encourage outdoor and physical activity.

This year’s theme is “Game on” and the celebration kicks-off at 7:05 p.m., July 1 with El Paso Parks and Recreation Night at the El Paso Chihuahuas baseball game, where City Manager, Tommy Gonzalez, and Parks and Recreation Director, Tracy A. Novak, will throw the first pitch.

“We’re excited to kick-off National Parks and Recreation Month, and celebrate all the family-fun activities our facilities have to offer,” said Tracy A. Novak, Parks and Recreation Director. “We have events people of all ages can enjoy.”

Exciting and adventurous activities include Trailblazers Archery Tournament, the Annual Zombie Softball Slam, Segundo Barrio Futsal Tournament, and Fun and Wild Water Day at various city swimming pools.

For those who enjoy music, there are the free summer concert series at city parks, the Sun and Fun Intergenerational Fiesta, Grandpa/Grandma and Me Dance, and the 4th of July Celebration and Concert at San Jacinto Plaza.

National Parks and Recreation Month has been celebrated for 34 years as a way to promote the benefits of local parks and recreation centers to communities and encourage people to get outside, explore local parks and enjoy outdoor activities.
