Sunday afternoon, officials with the City of El Paso announced the appointment of Norma Martinez as the City’s Director of Library Services.
“In the year that Norma has served as interim director, she has clearly shown her ability, skill and knowledge to lead the Public Library Department,” said Deputy City Manager of Quality of Life Tracey Jerome.
“She brings passion, enthusiasm and advocates for the importance of libraries in our community.”
Martinez, who has been with the City of El Paso for more than 25 years and appointed to Interim Library Director in June 2019, will oversee the City’s Public Library system.
Martinez started as a Library Information Specialist in 1994 and eventually became a Branch Manager at the Westside Branch Library in 2013. In 2017, she promoted to Assistant Director of Libraries where she helped manage 12 library branches, the Bookmobile and Techmobile, and monitored monthly statistics and much more.
Martinez has a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Phoenix and a Master’s of Science in Information Science from the University of North Texas.
Martinez will begin her new role as Director of Library Services on Sunday, June 21.
